Engineer - BOM Control

The Role:

  • Manage full and concise BOMs along with associated processes across multiple projects and sites, creating workflows, establishing priorities, best practice and KPI
  • Reporting to the Product Data Manager within the PM team
  • Assisting in implementing and maintaining BOM derivatives such as Purchasing and Service BOMs from conception through to aftersales and ELV
  • Extracting and examination of BOM information to support business 


  • Control and update of BOM content and attributes within PLM
  • Initiating BOMs within a spreadsheet format, ensuring part number and part description consistency for pre-loading with the established PLM system
  • Implement, drive and maintain all BOMs in your charge to a satisfactory level within an Enovia PLM system
  • Organise external multi-site BOM meetings where necessary ensuring all interested parties (including suppliers) are appropriately represented
  • Coordinate all part number change activity throughout build phases
  • Respond to BOM queries raised by other areas, ensuring timely and accurate problem resolution
  • Maintain the integrity of the BOM release process and checklist to reflect the business needs
  • Where necessary, acts as the point of contact for all internal and international BOM related queries
  • Monitors and progresses BOM related issues or concerns raised by business functions and supplier base
  • Ensure all BOM related attributes are fully addressed
  • Assuring the necessary BOM Part related Change approval has been fully addressed before providing final BOM Part authorization 


  • Maintain Process and Procedures
  • Metrics and status reports
  • Maintaining concurrent BOM status within the PLM system (adopting a spreadsheet method throughout interim phases)
  • Reports and KPIs to senior management


  • Experience in engaging with BOM, PLM and ERP applications
  • MS office literate including Excel (with some ability related to understanding formulae, Macros etc.), Word and PowerPoint with charts and other functions
  • Experience with PLM structures and Change implementation
  • Minimum of 3 years Automotive experience within a similar role
  • Flexible and willing to accept challenging and sometimes diverse activities to maintain project deliverables
