Technical Team

Emerald has assembled an experienced management team in conjunction with automotive industry sub-contractors with extensive niche vehicle market experience. The team retains extensive global knowledge of automotive design, manufacturing systems and final vehicle production. The management team has been responsible for bringing 19 different vehicles to market over the past two decades.

Ian Collins, Technical Director

Ian CollinsIan is a Chartered Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in delivery of automotive systems to volume production. Following a ten year period in electronics development at Rover Group, he joined McLaren Automotive where he was appointed chief electrical engineer on the Mercedes SLR supercar programme. In 2007 he took up a position as project director at a startup developing an innovative renewable energy product, bringing it to full production readiness. Ian joined Emerald in 2011.

Ian Clifton, Chief Engineer, 3.5t Platform

Ian has worked in the automotive product development sector for over thirty years. He has held a number of engineering leadership and business development roles at the senior management and board levels. In his early career Ian was part of Design teams working across the globe with major OEM’s. His projects have included GM passenger vehicles for North America, Ford Icon for India, Ford Connect and Transit projects as well as number of specialist lightweight bespoke vehicles for European and Asia-Pacific markets. Managing his own Engineering Services Company for ten years from the mid 2000’ Ian then joined Emerald as Chief Program Engineer and is now supporting the development of Emerald's Hybrid Lightweight Light Commercial Vehicles.

Jonathan Gould, Chief Stylist

Jonathan GouldJonathan has worked in the automotive consultancy sector for over twenty years having started his career with Hawtal Whitting. During this time he has supplied many creative designs to the world’s automotive manufacturers. During the 90’s this included the design, build and test of bespoke Bentley’s and Rolls Royce Corniche. From 2001-2007 he was responsible for the design team within Ove Arup & partners, during this time he was the design consultant for the Modec EV project. In 2007 he launched That’s it! Design, supplying 2d & 3d OEM standard design solutions to the automotive industry with a particular emphasis on the niche vehicle market. Jonathan's experience in Design is complimented by an understanding and appreciation for the engineering/manufacturing process and the challenges to bring a product to market.

Tim Kearney, Chief Engineer Chassis & Vehicle Integration.

Bob MustardTim is a Chartered Engineer with over 30 years’ experience in the industry. He has worked on both high volume and niche vehicle products. From 2005 to 2010 Tim worked on the ground-breaking Tesla Roadster as Chief Engineer Chassis & Vehicle Package. In addition Tim has worked on numerous vehicle programmes for Lotus Engineering, Aston Martin, Ford and Austin Rover. Tim joined Emerald in September 2014.

Richie Sibal, Chief Engineer, Electrical

Ian CollinsRichie is an electronics engineering graduate with an MBA from the University of Surrey. He joined McLaren in 1996 as a senior systems engineer and has worked on a number of cutting edge development programs ranging from Formula 1 and Le Mans winning sports cars to the Mercedes-McLaren SLR. In 2005, Richie was appointed Electrical Function Group Manager and successfully led the engineering development and delivery of the electrical and wiring systems for the McLaren MP4-12c and P1 road cars through the complete lifecycle from initial concept through to launch. In 2013, Richie joined Delphi as Customer Electronics Manager (Volkswagen) where he was responsible for the engineering development and delivery of engine control systems for the next generation of VW Group diesel engines. Richie joined Emerald Automotive in June 2014.

David Taitt, Chief Engineer, Powertrain

David TaittDavid is a powertrain and hybrid drive train expert with over 30 years experience in automotive research and development. As Managing Director of Lotus Engineering, Mr. Taitt was responsible for securing and delivering major high-volume powertrain engineering programmes for the world’s largest automakers and is regarded as one of the global experts in low volume alternative power vehicles.
